Caroline Han

Caroline lives in Marlborough, MA with her husband, two teenage kids and a dog named Mickey. For most of her career, she taught African history and U.S. History at a suburban public high school west of Boston. Last fall, she left her stable teaching job and beloved students and colleagues to take on a new challenge as a Diversity and Equity Coordinator in a nearby K-12 public school district. This new role has enabled her to pursue her interest in promoting anti-racist practices to a wider audience of educators. She loves listening to K-5 students tell her what they think words like, "diversity," "justice," and "racism" mean.

Her greatest teachers have been her students, especially those who come from marginalized communities. She writes, “The senseless murders of innocent Black men and women in recent months, followed by the national and global protests, signify a pivotal time in this country's history. Can we sustain the attention, effort and commitment to bring about the changes needed to protect Black lives? When doubt, despair or pessimism creeps in, I recall the words of the great James Baldwin: ‘Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.’” She looks forward to meeting and getting to know fellow TEL participants, the TEL leadership team and guest speakers!
