Andrea Barrera

Andrea Barrera (they/she) is the Social Science, Equity, and Global Readiness Specialist at the Cartwright School District in occupied O’odham Jewed territory, so-called Phoenix, AZ. Their role allows them to brainstorm creative ways to weave social justice and equity into the district’s academic and relational practices, with a focus on breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma through restorative justice and transformative social emotional learning. Andrea is also committed to making the world a safer place for transgender and gender non-conforming people, and organizes with diverse educators, parents, and community members to advocate for anti-racist and fully funded public education. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys spoiling their Chigi, Meme, working with their given and chosen ancestors' wisdom to guide them in this realm, dancing to cumbia, and spending time with their partner in the vanilla-scented ponderosa pine forests along Ndee territory in the so-called Mogollon Rim.
