Kristen Devine

Kristen, MA, has been in the field of education for 29 years. After joining Teach for America in the early 1990’s, she committed her career to San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). Kristen holds a master’s in Special Education along with a special education teaching credential and administrative services credential. She experienced a full range of teaching, coaching and administrative opportunities within the field of Special Education developing her keen awareness for the perpetual inequities in education.

In her current role as Director of Special Education, Kristen has facilitated leadership team meetings deepening the department's recognition of white supremacy culture and acceptance of change during uncertain times. In addition to overseeing county special education functions for SFUSD, Kristen represents the district in resolving active litigation. As a single mother of a son with dyslexia, Kristen draws on her personal experience to improve special education experiences for students and families.
