Nessa Mahmoudi

Nessa (she/her) currently serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Golestan School, a Persian immersion school in El Cerrito, California. Prior to accepting this role she was a bilingual elementary school teacher for 12 years, as a Spanish dual-immersion teacher at Melrose Leadership Academy in East Oakland and as a English/Persian K-2 teacher at Golestan School. She has worked in international education in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Mexico as Director of Programs for Global Learning. In 2015, she also was awarded a Fulbright Distinguished Teaching Award, and traveled to New Zealand to complete an inquiry project about Māori bilingual education. She relishes in the process of co-constructing learning spaces and systems that center the humanity of both children and adults. She dreams of schools where big and little people are centered in the values of love, transformative justice and liberation, and where they reflect, dream, and collaborate as they transform themselves in order to transform the world.
